A Brief History on Hotdogs
The hot dog, also spelled hotdog, is a deliciously grilled or steamed sausage sandwich where the sausage is served in the slit of the sliced bun. Hotdog preparation and condiments vary regionally in the US. Usually condiments include mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, relish, and cheese sauce, and common garishes incldued onions, saurekraut, jalapenos, chili, grated cheese, coleslaw and olivies. There are also various of the hotdog including corn dog, pigs ina blanket.
Originally imported from Germany and became popular in the United States, where the “hotdog” became a working-class street food sold at stands and carts. The hotdog became closely associated with baseball and culture in America. Eventually, the hotdog became ubiquitous throughout the US during the 20th century, and emegred as an important part of other regional cuisines, including Chicago street cuisine.
